| The curious, pinnacled appearance of Llanrhian Church dates from the 19th century, but the site is an ancient one, dedicated to an early saint, Rhian. Evidence for this is found near the tower, at the base of the north wall, into which is et a cross inscribed stone with a double circle. The squat, massive tower, with 3 foot thick walls may once have stood alone and dates from the 13th century. A curiosity is the decagonal font of a stone believed to have come from Jerusalem. Ten panels contain invested shields, one bearing the arms of a prominent early Tudor nobleman, Sir Rhys ap Thomas, whose connection with Llanrhian is unknown. | |||
