Church SN 022342

On the wooded slopes above the mysterious Gwaun Valley stands a tiny church dedicated to the 6th century St Brynach. According to the medieval life, Brynach fled from the settlement of Pontfaen, pursued by evil spirits, eventually to settle in nevern.

Two 6-9th century pillar stones with inscribed Latin crosses (perhaps near-contemporary with the Saint himself) stand in the circular churchyard, a characteristic feature of the earliest Christian settlements in Pembrokeshire, like Llanstinan.

The church was largely rebuilt in the 1860's and houses many memorials to the Arden family who lived in the adjacent Pontfaen house.
